Great Energy Provider
Very easy to get started with, we lived in an apartment for 2 years where electricity was provided. They switched us over promply (we bought a home)and there was no deposit required. I like the option for signing a 6 mo. contract at very competitive rates.

The Benefits of Choice
The benefits of choice are clear when you work with StarTex Power. I didn't realize how good I had it until I moved away. But from start to finish, and at every point in between, StarTex went above and beyond to deliver competitive prices and excellent customer service. I was most impressed when a VP picked up to answer a billing question. You just don't find that service elsewhere. I miss having the option to choose a power company. But if I ever make it back to Texas, StarTex is the choice for me!

Did not have a problem switching from one power company to Star-Tex. They are the greatest, and I have used several different providers over the years. Their rates are among the lowest and I will continue to renew my contract with them.

Very pleased
After searching several different electricity providers in my area I found Star Tex to have the lowest rates. I have renewed with them 2 times and found they ahve been a good provider with above average customer service (Not the best but certainly not the worst) It's like gas we all use it so we all have to pay for it. You look for good gas prices don't you. Be sure if you apply on line and everything looks like it is set call and talk to a PERSON and verify that was my only complaint. The service I requested online was not what was registered with the office they did correct everything.

Very Pleased
My last electric provider started going up on the rates and started charging a $5 monthly service fee for handling my account paperwork (sending me a bill in the mail). Also my last electric provider had a very large fee for breaking a contract they insisted I sign. Several friends switched to Startex and were very pleased. I switched to Startex and my electric bills were immediately cut in half compared to the same amount of electricty used with my previous electric provider. Startex does NOT charge me a monthly fee for handling my account paperwork. Startex does NOT charge a fee if I change me contract. Customer service at Startex also very friendly and helpful.

Have had StarTex for a year. I chose them due to their low price. Never had any problems. Both Connecting and Disconnecting phone calls went smoothly. I had no problems over the past year. I set up automatic payment easily. I am moving and have chosen to take this opportunity to go with a company that uses more renewable energy, but costs more. Otherwise, I would have continued with StarTex.

I went with Star Tex last year in November 2009 when I moved and my electric bill went way down. I've never had any problems with my bills being correct or have had no problems with their service. My plan ends in November and I plan on renewing for another year. When I checked on new rates, it was actually down from my previous rate by nearly 1 cent per kWh. It all adds up!

Great Company
I purchased my first home last year and I was very worried about what my electric bills would be in a much more spacious living area. So I compared numerous electric companies against each other. I was very sceptical at the very competetive energy price this company was offering so I signed a 1 year contract. Well I'm very happy to say this company is legit and beats all the major electric companies in the state of Texas hands down. I paid a lot more in electricity when i was living in my 700 sq ft apt. I now live in a 1500 sq ft home and I am paying less yearly than I did when I lived in my apt. I have referred 6 of my friends and all 6 of my friends have told me their electric bills have been cut in half. I wish the company offered a referral bonus because the 6 people I have referred have all referred others. Stop wasting your money. Sign up now and see the difference.

I like the customer service that I receive from this provider. I have had two other companies and this is a step above them. StarTex Power Rocks!!
I've lived in Texas for almost three years now, and am still in shock over how low my electricity bill is. At first, I had inadvertently signed up for an adjustable rate, (Clueless because in Florida, you do NOT have a choice where power is concerned; on rate, or company.)and when I realized this, all it took was one phone call to get it fixed, at a great rate. No hassle, whatsoever. I've never had any problem at all with the actual service either. The power has gone off a couple of times with weather, or whatever, but it was always right back on in no time. A friend, whose house is smaller than mine, was paying more than three times as much as I do for power. She didn't believe me. I literally had to show her my bill. She's a StarTex Power customer too, now! (Smart meter my foot.) I will absolutely refer people to StarTex Power whenever the opportunity presents itself. Thank you! :)

The Best Company overall
I signed up with Star Tex Power about 2 years ago. I tend to do 6 mo. contracts because of lower price. I appreciate their NOT adding on trivial fees, such as "talking with rep, payment by phone, or payment online." It's good business, as usual, with Star Tex. I haven't found anything that would tempt me to change.

My StarTex Power
I have been a StarTex Power customer for about 4 years at 2 home addresses, one being an apartment and one being a home and a business. When I first heard of StarTex and changed from "The Bigger and Well Known" company, I was impressed with StarTex's superior customer service, then shocked at the immediate drop in my electric bills. When I was in the process of moving into my home, which did not go as planned, I worked closely with the SAME customer service representative who again did not waiver in her performance and met all of my needs without a hitch. Since StarTex Power had been so awesome with service and pricing, when I opened a business, they again, provided the best customer service and quote. I have dealt with only one other electric company in my life and I have to say there is absolutely no comparison between these two companies. If you are with anyone other than StarTex Power, you should, at the very least, try them for one year. No hidden fees either, just ask.

I switched to StarTex 6 months ago and have consistently had lower bills than with TXU. I had a rate of .13 per kW in the winter and .15 per kW in the summer with TXU and now I have a fixed rate of .09 per kW. My bills have been at least $29 less a month even when I used more kWs. I have saved $289 in 6 months compared to the same time last year with TXU and I used more kWs with StarTex. They did not charge me a switching fee or a deposit. I have not had any interuption of service. I would recommend them.

Great Company, Great Customer Service!
Have been a StarTex customer since 2008 and have never had a problem with them. Was thinking about getting a little cheaper rate but then read the reviews of the cheaper companies and saw their horrible reviews and decided to pay a little more for good service. My meter broke a few months ago and I was charged an under min fee that I called today to get credited b/c they are estimating my back bills, so I told them I shouldn't have to pay those fees if I'm now paying those months in full and StarTex said they would credit them and I'll see the credit on my next bill. So far I'm a satisified customer and will stay with them another year.

After searching on the internet for my new electric provider I came across Startex power decided to give them a try. I am very glad I did so, I have been with them going on 3 months now and am happy to say I am a very satisfied customer. I live in a 3 bed 2 bath home my bills have been anywhere from 90 to 120 a month. At first I thought this was some sort of mistake on their behalf but that was not the case. With my previous provider I was paying around 280 a month that was a 2 bed 2 bath. I would highly recomend anyone looking for good service at a reasonable price to Startex!

On moving to Texas, we were confronted by choosing an electric company. This was overwhelming. I did research on Texas companies, and read a lot of material. Exceptional price and customer service
StarTex is exceptional in all senses of the word. It has always been a very good value and the administration has always operated smoothly. However, I recently had occasion to experience the true test of a really good company and that is when something goes wrong. In this case, an erroneous charge from Cernterpoint was passed thru to one of our accounts. StarTex's customer service very courteously responded on a continuous basis until the charge was rectified (giving due credit to Centerpoint also). This may sound simple but it is in stark contrast to the previous large Dallas based company that we had been a loyal customer for years. In that case an obvious serious problem developed with one of the account's meter readings after the hurricane interrupted service for weeks. This began a nightmare that lasted for over a year and a half with charges up to 10 times normal compounded by accounting errors. Always fair price, never any account problems
Been with StarTex for a few years now (4 I think) and we've always been
gotten within $.05 / KWh of anyone elses 12 month fixed rates - they've
never jacked us around with big rate hikes when pur contract expires and
renewing fixed rate contracts is painless.
Their web site pretty much can handle anything and I've never had any
billing problems. Even when I had to close my debit card and forgot to
tell them; they got a denied charge but no fees were imposed on me and I
was able to update the card info on their web site.
Been very happy with them.

My contract with StarTex is about up and I have been searching for a cheaper provider. However, after reading the reviews for these companies I realize that the bargains come at a cost, customer service and reliability, both of which I have found to be excellent with StarTex. StarTex's prices are about average, but at least I know I won't have any battles with these folks!

I was on a rate plan until this July and was very happy. I did not enter another because I knew I would be buying a home and was worried about breaking a contract. Even though I have been going month to month my bill has been good. Unfortunately I am forced to shop for another company because the new rate plans are very high. I have not had any issues, I love that I can go online and pay, and my bills were decent. They no longer offer any rate plans that are priced decent. I did try to call customer service to see if I could get a lower rate as a loyal customer but no luck.....so I will shop and read reviews until I find another company

Short but good experience
I only went through the ordering and cancelling
process with Startex Power, but it was a
pleasant one. The online ordering system is
very fluid and doesn't feel cumbersome.
Unfortunately I needed to have power within 24
hours and was unaware that Starpower DOES offer
that service, and we signed up with another
company and had to cancel the service with
Starpower. The customer service person was
very friendly when I made this request and she
did explain to me about that 'priority service'
but understood my situation and cancelled the
service with no penalties or issues.
I recommend startex power simply based on the
fact of great customer service, their modern
online services, and their good rates. I'll be
switching to them once my term with this other
company expires.

Great Service and Pricing
I moved down to S. Texas almost a year ago. Well closing on my home, the realtor had suggested Ambit as the provider of choice here. It took all of 2 months to realize just how bad Ambit's customer service and pricing was. I called them one afternoon, well sitting on hold for 45 minutes, I started doing research of other providers and found StarTex. I called StarTex directly after hanging up on Ambit (never did get a rep, even after 45 mins). I was talking to a StarTex rep in less then 5 mins. She took my new order and I was on my way in just a few minutes. I just got my renewal notice from StarTex and I'm happy to say I'll be staying with them. Great service and definitely the lowest pricing. Keep up the good work StarTex. Thanks.

I switched to Startex 6 months ago, after being with another provider for almost 15 years. Should have changed YEARS ago. I did alot of research and decided to go with Startex due to price plans, reviews, ratings etc. I am very glad I did. I wanted to wait to review them until I had been with them several months. Things have gone great. Billing is spot on, NO surprises! Yay! Email reminders to pay bills etc. When I have contacted contact customer service, they are extremely helpful by phone but also they respond to emails VERY fast! Great company and I hope to be with them a long time! Just be sure to lock into a price and remember to renew when it expires. They take credit cards too if you pay your bills that way, I just wish they took American Express. That's my only complaint! Great company

Made the Switch
We have used/tried with StarTex Power at our rental properties on and off in between tenants for the past two years. Had great experiences each time using their month-to-month plan, easy to sign on and off, with excellent customer services. Now that the contract at our own residence is up for renewal, we decided to look around. Not surprisingly, through this website, we saw that StarTex power has a very attractive competitive rate for the 100% renewable energy plan. So we just signed on. The whole application process only took about 2 minutes online. With the past experiences we had with StarTex Power, we know that it is going to be good. We are in!

Great!
When we signed up, StarTex had very competitive rates. I like being able to pay online (and not pay a fee), and I also like not being required to pay by automatic draft. We have never had a problem with service. In fact, the only problem I have ever had was that my initial request for e-billing apparently didn't go through; luckily I caught it before the due date of our next bill so we didn't get a late fee. My sister also signed up for StarTex on my recommendation when she moved. Now that we are looking at renewal, a few other companies appear to have better rates. However, StarTex's minimum usage requirements and base charges if you don't meet the minimum are much lower than everyone else's so I will be crunching some numbers before I make my decision. Overall we have been very happy with StarTex.

I have been with Startex for a couple years or more now, and have never had any problems with their service. Always helpful over the phone and have made it easy on me every time I've had to renew. And, from what I can tell, their rate is not always the lowest listed on "Power to Choose", but their cost is pretty straightforward...where as other companies appear to have quite a few different underlying fees. So Sad to Change from Startex, but Renewal Rates just weren't competitive
I have nothing but absolutely positive things to say about Startex. Their billing is easily read and accurate. Their signup prices were competitive and their minimum usage fee kicked in at a much lower usage than other companies. They were extremely helpful in their signup and the only time I spoke with customer service, which was to ask about renewal rates because my contract is ending, they were extremely polite and helpful. I was only on hold for maybe 2 minutes and the young lady who helped me was exceptionally polite and knowledgeable. The ONLY reason I'm having to leave is because they are offering me an increase in my current rate for the next 12 months and they are quite a bit higher than some of the new contract prices that other companies are offering right now. However, I had intended to stay with them if they would have maintained my current rates so if you are a new customer, you cannot go wrong with their service or prices!

It's Time To Move On
I've been a Star Tex customer for 3 years, and I would have to say had a good experience with them up until now. After the first year, they notified me that my contract was up for renewal. I requested them to renew at a certain rate, which would have been comparable to one of their competitors. They agreed, and all was well. I was in for a surprise when that contract expired. No notice, and just a surprise bill with the rate jacked up 3 cents KWH. I sent Star Tex an email asking if they would lock in a lower rate, letting them know that if they did I would refer a customer to them. I received a big N-O, and that was the end of that. I then requested a letter of credit from them, and haven't heard anything back. Needless to say, it's time to switch, because my monthly electricity bill is way too high, and they are simply no longer competitive.

Contract Renewal
StarTex has always been a good company in the four years that I have been with them. When it came time to renew my contract, customer service tried to work with me on my rates and could only offer me a nine months contract ( I was hoping for six months) with a slightly higher rate then previously. I took it because I never had any problems with them and they have never had any hidden fees. The only thing that I have found disappointing is that within 4 days of my contract renewal, rates dropped below where I was previously. Especially, because when I originally contacted StarTex about possibly keeping my previous rates for renewal, it couldn't be done and now the rates are lower. I may consider switching companies in the future if it means lower rates and a better monthly contract.

Great service for years
Overall I have had great service from Startex since I switched from TXU in 2009. TXU failed to notify me my contract was up and switched me to a monthly rate. At first I thought the high bills was just the hot Texas summer, but then I discovered I had been paying exorbitant rates with them after years of loyalty. So I decided to switch, did plenty of research and at the time found Startex to not only have great rates, but one of the lowest monthly base prices (this is where many companies get you - if you use below a certain amount - Startex is below 499 kWH - many others are below 700-1000. I use less than 499 about 2 months out of the year, but less than 1000 seven months out of the year.) Anyway, they have always sent me a notice when my contract was about to expire and at renewal my rates have dropped even lower each year. Recently, my husband left and divorced me and I needed to switch service into my name. The first rep I talked to when I called wasn't quite as helpful as others, but told me I needed to wait until closer to the end of the contract. When I got within the time frame I called back and got a wonderfully helpful rep who helped me open my new account and didn't charge any deposit fees. I'm also impressed that when people do post complaints on here they always respond - most other companies don't.I was actually being invited to join an MLM energy company, but after doing my research, decided not to do so and stay with Startex. (And yes, I am a REAL customer).

I am writing to inform you that you have an EXCELLENT employee by the name of Farena Davis. She went to great lengths to make sure that I was taken care of. It is employees like her that make a company so great. I will definitely be recommending Star Tex Power to anyone I know that may need an electrical provider. It isn't often that I find myself pleased with the customer service that utility companies provide, simply because it seems no one cares. It was very obvious that Ms. Davis cared about my needs and made sure to help me in any way that she could. She followed up with me and even sent me information I needed in a text because I couldn't write it down at the time. I am really impressed by the lengths she went to make sure my needs were met. Her service was outstanding. I wish my other utility companies had employees like her. I work in customer service myself and try my best to treat my customers like I would like to be treated. Farena definitely sets a standard and an example that I will follow in my own job. Needless to say. I hope that she is recognized for the excellence she provides!!

Competent Customer Service - Reasonable Rates
I have been with StarTex Power for at least 3 years now and through it all have never had any issues with their customer service. I have been able to connect to a REAL PERSON every time I call and am never charged ridiculous extra fees for making a payment with a live person. Even when we were going through financially tight months, StarTex never disconnected our power and would contact us if there was a late payment. BTW, they never charged me a late fee either. It's the first electric company I've had, and I've had many (count 4 years of college + 3 of grad school moving almost every year), where I felt that the people working in the company are human and understand when life gets in the way of yes, even the bills. Today, I was up for renewal of contract and I didn't even have to ask for bonus retention offers. The customer rep, Renee, went out of her way to find a deal for me. StarTex - you are keeping this customer! (And I'm going to bring along a few friends too) I personally think that although they might not have the cheapest rate out there, their customer service is valuable enough to justify the rate difference.

I've NEVER had a problem with StarTex. I've had several others and their rates and fees always increase. Startex doesn't have the lowest rate, but they are about in the middle. I always use the "AMI" promotional code when I renew and it gives me the cheapest possible price...typically about .2 cents off per kWh. I pay via my banks bill pay system and have never had an issue. They send me monthly bills, they send me renewal notices, and their customer service has always been prompt and courteous. I would highly recommend StarTex for a reliable, cost efficient, and good power company.

Grateful and Oh, So, pleased!
Being a widow and on S.S. I am so grateful to this company. I want everyone to know about StarTex and their low rates and great service. I have saved so much money since changing from the old provider I had used for 50 years. I am here to say, "Don't stay with a company you have been with a long time, keep you from changing to a different provider." I waited way to long to go with StarTex just because I had been with TXU for many years. Check it out. You will be so glad you did!

Pretty decent company
I had startex for almost two years. Customer service has been great and easy to work with. Their pricing is reasonable although they are not the cheapest. What I liked was that they don't bait and switch you to another rate when your terms are up (reliant did that to me now). The only reason I left startex is because my contract was up but my girlfriend still had 10 months on her plan when we moved in. I would recommend starte because there is no hassle, good customer service, and reasonable rates.

We got 1 year contract with this company by a friend's recommendation and never had any issues though we were skeptic for every new energy company that we hadn't been with. We even moved between our contract term and they were so easy to transfer the connection and even let us have energy at both places for few days while moving. Great customer service. Highly Recommend them.

Great
Been using it for almost 3.5 yrs, had a jump from almost 15cnts in 2008 to 9 cents in 2009 and was WOW, electricity became cheap and saved around 50+ $ PM jst because of rate reduction. Your rates are very competitive and CSRs very friendly. What I see you guys lacking in is a quality website and some reward programs which otherwise can cause some loss of customer base.
Good Luck!

Not perfect, but close. Offers 100% wind power
Prices when I signed up for StarTex Power were very good. Then the contract ended and I wasn't a "new" customer anymore. Problem is, the competition, their rates went up too and with all the bad stuff I'd heard about other companies, I decided to stay with StarTex. It's been a good move. When I saw they offered 100% wind power, I was very happy to sign up for it. Rates for renewable energy are a bit higher than regular rates, but if enough of us sign up for it and create the demand, it should drop. In the meantime, this review is powered by the wind. I love that!

StarTex has been great to deal with. Excellent customer service and no surprises when the bill came in. Been with them for the past 6 months and am very satisfied. Only downside is that they no longer offer 6 month plans so I'll be forced to change providers... a shame really. Lock in for 12 months and avoid the headache I'm having trying to find another provider... bleh.

3 month renewal
I have been with StarTex now for 15-16 months. The first year I signed a one year contract and then renewed my contract for three months after that due to the big price difference in the price with the three month plan and one year plan. My apartment lease is about to expire in six months but StarTex doesn't offer any six month plans. Instead, I renewed my contract for another three months but I had to call them personally to get a manager's approval to renew a three month contract at the "new customer" rate. StarTex should make the process easier by allowing existing customers to do it online. Why not reward existing customers by encouraging them to stay with StarTex instead of discouraging them to go elsewhere. Offer them a discount or some other incentive to stay. It's tempting to change when all types of offers are being made by other utility companies but due to good customer service and having no billing issue, I'll stay with them for now. Three months can go by fast, so if you don't want to deal with constant contract renewals, try to get locked into a plan that suites your needs.

Good company-needs a little tweaking
I have done a review on startex before and continue to be a current customer. The only thing they need to change is when you want to renew on the 3 month plan that power to choose has for startex, they need to have that available on their website instead of having to call customer service and get a supervisor to override it so you can renew as a current customer. I was told in the past by e-mail that startex treats current and new customers the same so that everyone can get the same rate. How about making it easier for that to happen. I am pleased with them as my electric provider and their customer service is very good. Also they are owned by Exelon now.

Switch over to Startex Power - they are GREAT
If you are considering switching over power companies, I HIGHLY recommend Startex Power!!Switched over 2 years ago to a fantastic rate for 1 year. When my contract came up for renewal they did in fact mail me a letter a month before the contact was up to renew. I never got around to renewing until today, after going month to month for about a year (and even then my bills weren't that much higher than when I was on the contract). When I called today, I talked to a woman here in HOUSTON, who spoke fluent English and she asked what kind of term I was looking for. I told her if I could get the rate listed on the PowertoChoose website that would be great. I was waiting for the standard reply of "that is for new customers only." but SHE SAID "Yes we can do that. That plan is for new and renewing customers." I also asked her to look up what my average useage was per month and she pulled it right up without giving me attitude. LOVE IT!!!!!!We set up automatic draft payments through the Startex website (not through our bank's pay bills feature) and have had our payments posted every month on the due date with NO ISSUES. Now I know why they keep winning the BBB Customer Service Awards.

I have been with StarTex for 2 years now. I have never had any issues with them; they provide wonderful customer service, send bills and expiration notices in a timely manner, and provide easy on-line payment availability. I have recommended them more than once to friends. However, my contract is about to expire and I am sad to say I will have to switch for a more competitive rate. Their offer for a fixed rate is over 10% higher than other companies, and their promotion is a simple $10 gift card.

I wish I had been able to amend my earlier review, but instead, I just posted a new one here.I'm very grateful to have had this web site to research companies. Renewing with Star Tex
My contract with Star Tex was about to expire, so I spent much time researching various plans and rates offered by providers in our area. I wanted to see if I could secure a better rate with a company that also scored well on customer satisfaction. After an exhausting search, I called Star Tex to clarify information on their website; all my questions were answered thoroughly in a patient and easy-to-understand manner by customer service agent Ashley. Based on past personal experience, as well as current information, I have chosen to renew with Star Tex.

I was truly hoping to stay with this company after being a customer for about 5 years. I've had excellent customer service since day one and great rates each 12 month renewal. This year I just can't seem to get a rate in the range I am seeking and will probably have to look elsewhere. I wanted to lock in for 24 months but they are higher than several others and just won't budge. Oh well, that's the world of competition!

If you are looking for a new company and are thinking about StarTex Power, go for it. However, like with any other company, be ready to make your next move before your contract is about to expire. I have used StarTex for a long time. Unfortunately, their rates went up, so I went away and singed a contract with another company. I contacted customer service a couple of times, and all went great. After seeing that "most" companies are charging 9.95 fee for usage less then 1000kwh including Startex I found 4 other plans that did not and planned on changing. When I called in to changed I told them they would have to leave me with the current usage fee of 4.99 for usage lessfor then 499Kwh to stay with them and they said yes! I am sure every apartment owner is upset with these new fees but show around and call Startex before you switch and politely ask. Maybe they do want to keep their Apt customers after all.

I'm only on this site because it's time to renew and rates have gone up slightly - just seeing what else is out there. It's interesting to read all of the bad reviews for StarTex - most of which seem to center on customer service. I've been a customer for three years and haven't had any issues with power delivery. As such I haven't had to call customer service. So - take that for what it's worth. Power delivery = great. Customer service = haven't had to deal with it so by default I'd have to say it's fine. If you're looking for a good rate and reliable service I'd recommend StarTex.

We had StarTex for 3 years. We never had a single problem. The bill was easy to read, and the contract termination date was clearly stated on each bill. They even sent a reminder letter just before the contract expired (for people like me who lose track of time). We always pay our bill on time, so we didn't really have a reason to contact customer service. The only reason we switched was because at time of renewal they were way higher than several other companies --which was odd because they had always had competitive rates. Sorry StarTex, but we need to save every penny.

All customers should pay attention to their contract. Like others, we forgot when ours ran out and our rate sky rocketed. Happy Customer
Startex power was great. I used them last few years and ended 12/2015. I rated them 4 lamps because I was billed an early termination fee that was supposed to be waived since I moved. I spoke to 3 different Customer service reps about it and I was told all was good every time until the next rep would call to get a $49.50 payment. I just received a call from a collections agency, claiming I owed the $49.50 again and told her the story. She told me to email her the Info. I called Startex Power, spoke to another kind service rep,( they have all been kind and helpful), told him what was going on, like so many times before and he said he sees all the notes but that the cancel refill had not ever been filed. He was doing it now and they actually owe me 50 cents since I over paid my last bill. So they were a good company I used for years until I moved in with my fianc. I would still use them but he has a contract With another provider.

Irritated by renewal by phone just to be "sold" things
When I bought my home in 2006, I was one of their first customers ever. I've stayed with them since then and always automatically renewed via online. I have automated pay and so never have I had to call anyone to renew my service each year (or 24 months). Suddenly out of nowhere I am told that I have to call to get the lowest rate. I called, which was irritating on its own since this has never happened in 10 years. I was given a lower rate, which was good and felt like the company was just trying to find out who were their most loyal customers. Then the renewal call turned into a sales push to get me to change my A/C guy! WHAT? I finally had to tell the rep to just stop it. I was not changing my A/C guy! Then, I had to answer all these approval questions. So they tried to sell me before they registered me. Not good. Then I had to be told about a referral code and all these benefits to getting people to switch to them. THEN, the rep wanted me have the referrals call him directly. At that time, my dog began barking because an AT&T guy came to my door so I was able to get off the phone. Entire time 15 minutes! I don't appreciate all that. I felt I was being baited, pressured, switched and victim of a sales call.

Keep track of your contract dates
I chose StarTex Power from several providers in the area. Their rates seem competitive and my service has been great. However, after my initial 6 month contract expired, StarTex never bothered to notify me or ask me to renew. They simply let my contract expire, started charging me a higher, non-contract rate. It's a shady practice and I feel like they've risked losing me as a customer for the $25 they swindled from me. As soon as I renewed, my rate dropped again but clearly I'll need to remember to renew early to avoid their expiration scam.

Ok provider
Have not had major issues, prices were ok but made mistake of accepting 3 year plan. Bad timing on my part I guess since rate at time I initiated plan was 13.6/kwh. Nothing I could with a $300+ cancellation fee once rates dropped significantly. Not worth cancelling and changing. Will look at other companies to try to improve rate for a while and make up some of what I have lost with this higher rate I got stuck with. Not afraid to switch and may even consider staying if rate is reasonalbe on month to month but it doesn't look like they are beating others or even close even on 3 or 6 month plans Startex appears too high compared to others. Customer service ok and have not had problems on a few occasions when late over the last 2 years.

Future Uncertain???
StarTex Power (Houston, TX) began with and established a reliable platform in the retail electric market noted for their excellent Customer Service department. They have been sold to Constellation Energy (Baltimore, MD) which has very low retail customer service reviews and itself is being taken over by Exelon Corporation (Chicago, IL) which has terrible customer service ratings. StarTex Turns off Online Account Management
StarTex has a strange policy of turning off the online account management if you do not pay your bill in time. It seems to me that during these times, the online account management tool should be more helpful. Turning it off when you are needing to pay your bill seems contrary to good logic.

Consistent, as long as nothing changes
I've been with them for almost 5 years. I made a mid-plan switch in May/Jun '09, when rates sank and I was tied into their 3 yr (roughly $.14/kWh rate) and got into another 3 year for (then) $.119/kWh. I had a bit of back and forth with them after the switch as their billing department didn't get the word that i was in a new plan. After 2 months, they got it straight. The only thing was I allowed them to continue billing the CC as I didn't want to discontinue and draw their ire. Shortly after I noticed that they never updated my new 3 yr plan 'end' date. After I called, they told me it was May/Jun of 2012. You can bet your last buck that I'll be on top of the change so that I'm not thrown into the non-plan summer rate. For others to note (but check, i'm not sure if it's law or the company's position) - but they told me I could submit my 'switch' request 15 days before the last period started). Be sure to check, don't take my word on this.
Overall-I'd definitely refer them!

Been with StarTex Power for a couple years and at the end of current contract period. While there are some other companies with slightly cheaper rates, I was drawn back to renew my contract by the excellent customer service, no hidden fees, and no gimmicks (like paying $5.95 to call Customer Service . . . *cough*- Reliant-*cough*). I'm willing to pay a little more for a company that exhibits integrity in dealing with their customers.

We have been with StarTex for about 1 year now. We really love the wonderful customer service and excellent service. We recently received our renewal notice and unfortunately we may have to switch companies. The rate we were quoted is not as good as the current offer and are not as competitive as other companies. We would really love to stay but have to do what is best for us. Thanks StarTex for making our transition to Texas a great experience!

No longer competitive
I have been a Star Tex customer for at least two years. My contract is up for renewal, and at first I was going to renew with Star Tex; but I, too will have to switch providers. When I shop for rates, I am seeing prices as low as 8.8 cents per KWH from some companies, with most in the 9.2 to 9.5 cent range. I switched from Reliant because Star Tex had such good rates. I have never had any customer service issues with Star Tex, but I am frankly shocked to see their rates are now on the high end of the spectrum (10.7 per kwh). I can even get better rates now with Reliant!I see several postings on that ratings site from customers who had the same experience as me. They loved the service but are leaving for better rates. I am not saying Star Tex has to be the lowest; but they are simply no longer competitive. It's a hassle to have to set up a new account with a new provider, but this price hike is too much to take.

Watch Out When Your Contract Expires!
I have been a Star Tex Power customer for the past 2 and half years. Although their rates were a little higher than their competitors their billing and customer service was always great.
However, my 12 month fixed rate contract recently expired and my 8.750 rate went to 13.390 on my next billing cycle. Evidently they don't mind gouging their current customer base with an excessively higher rate and really don't mind retaining current customers! I felt taken advantage of (screwed to us the popular venacular). Obviously, I went with one of their competitors renewing with a 7.9 fixed rate. Good bye and good riddens Star Tex Power. I hope you figure out that treating your current customer base fairly and equitablely is what keeps you in business.

Long Time Customer
I have been with StarTex for several years now, have not had any major problems and would gladly renew with them if they offered a more favorable rate . My complaint is that every time my contract expires, their rates offered are not as competitive as some other companies. I typically get a 12 month contract and use approximately 500-1000 kwh per month. In their offer for renewal, the additional minimum charge for low usage is now being applied for usage below 1000 kwh instead of below 500 kwh, which drives my effective rate higher. I am once again being forced to evaluate other offers and will likely go with a different company if their renewal offer is the best they can do.

Retention efforts fall short
We locked in good rates for the last two years and looked at renewing today. The price pr Kwh change is radically higher. My wife talked with customer service to try to maintain a reasonable rate and was offered even higher rates. Not a good sign for retaining our custom. We recently persuaded our caregiver to switch over to StarTex (I know nothing about a referral plan, but that would be nice). We will advise her to closely monitor her account when it comes up for renewal. In the meantime, we will shop and most likely change over our service.

My rates end on 060213 and I have spoke to the customer service but. I wasn't happy with the response. Two years ago I was over charged with the smart meter installed on the new home I bought. HOHUM HOHUM, It was only me in the home at the time. I don't think I would recommend I only had one lost check, My mother was mad about it. Still conflicted.

Pricing seems less competitive after Constellation acquired StarTex
Pricing seems less competitive after Constellation acquired StarTex. After several years with StarTex we have switched to another provider for a lower rate on this renewal. StarTex changing the minimum usage fee from $4.99 for less than 500 kwh to $9.99 for less than 1000 kwh was yet another reason to switch. During the months between A/C and heat we use less than 1000 and more than 500 kwh and it's an insult to be gouged. The folks from Maryland can go back from whence they came. And shame on the Texans (if there actually were any to begin with) for selling out! I guess the founders made their money and ran.

Minimum Usage Fee increase
I was a customer before they were bought by Constellation Energy. I called them shortly afterwards and told them I would give them a chance. One of the deciding factors in choosing them in the first place was the minimum usage fee. I use below 500 kWh one month a year (maybe) and in the past 12 months I have used below 1000 kWh 9 months. With the new minimum usage fee increase and not offering anything below a 12 month plan. I will be paying an extra $90 a year. I have decided to fire StarTex and switched providers. They were charging $4.99 as a minimum usage fee below 500 kWh. Now they are charging $9.95 for a minimum usage fee below 999 kWh. I did call customer service to see if there was anything they could do, since I had been a customer for over 3 years. I was told they have had meetings and was nothing they could do about waiving this fee or modifying it.

First let me say the responses from Startex seem like corporate doubletalk. After some people contacted CS 3 times with an issue Startex says to write them, Really? I've been a Startex customer for several years now, Last year I willing signed up for another 12 months. I knew it wasn't the lowest rate on the market but all my hassle free experience with them I felt a couple of cents for less hassle was worth it. At least much better than a former company known by me as Second to last Choice (First Choice) but... Since being bought out by Constellation it seems this luxury will cost me more. or will it? Startex give me a reason why I should stay? Last year your company allowed a digit drop. This year I waited to see this offer and....nothing, well except much higher prices. I will be calling to see if you can offer something to keep a customer. If not I guess you will leave me no choice but to jump the fence and swim with the sharks again.

StarTex gives you 15 days to pay your bill and then delays crediting your payment for about 6 days in my experience. If you miss your 7 days to get the bill and get payment mailed to them, you get socked with a late charge. For the first time in 40 years, we were "late" on a payment even though we paid them within 2 weeks of receiving the bill. Beware this company.

Be Careful!
Startex is a company that will be sufficient when everything is running fine. However, I had a payment sent a few days late (no late payments for previous 10 months), and they cancelled my power WITHOUT any notification. The power was shut off when my wife was home with our newborn baby. They threatened to keep the power off until I transferred payment to them, but then customer service completely fell apart when I broke off my contract. They keep calling for their final payment despite breaking the contractual obligations of warning us about service termination. Since that time they have added $300 more in fees. Be careful, this company is nice when you are paying on time, but miss one payment, and they will bring the house down on you!

HORRIBLE customer service
I've called several times asking to speak to a supervisor regarding my account, to no avail. I just want to speak with somebody with a brain in their head that cares about not losing a customer. In such a competitive environment, it seems they don't care at all about losing a customer, in spite of my willingness to pay the $350 cancellation fee. Get it through your skulls: I'm going elsewhere unless you work with me. Business 101. Clearly the CS reps don't care about their company or the future (or lack thereof) of their jobs.
Would like to add, much like many services today, it's easy as pie to sign up, but once they've got you, good luck dealing with their CS. Nowhere on their website makes it easy to change payment options, renew or otherwise.

GREAT PRICE BAD SERVICE
I was originally attracted to this company by their low rates and I have had service with them for over 2 years. That is until today, due to the Christmas holidays I was unable to make my payment due on the 2nd of Jan. So I figured I would make it with my next paycheck on the 15th. However, by the time I paid my power had been cut off and now I'm facing massive connect and disconnect fees. When I spoke to a customer service manager "NORA" she told me those were their policies and quite frankly I got the feeling she could care less about my disconnected service. In an effort to get some kind of reaction from her I even went as far as to tell her that it may be time to change electric companies to which she replied "I'm sorry you feel that way." Now I can go up to 2 days without power. Not sure if they know, but its "WINTER" AND I HAVE 3 CHILDREN!! LESSON LEARNED: With this company you are nothing more than an account number. They are quick to disconnect and leave you dark!

I like StarTex
I've been with StarTex for the past 2 years at 2 diff apt. They weren't the cheapest but they had good ratings. This past year I've been paying $.11 Fixed (avg monthly bill is $70 for a 720sf 1bd apartment i keep the A/C at 80 with fans on. They don't transfer service to a new apartment so they'll set up new service for you. The only issue I had with them was during my 2nd month at my 2nd apartment when my bill totaled to $200. I called and after a very long wait, I reached them and the person was really helpful. It turned out that the meter was read wrong by the CenterPoint meter reader. I checked it myself and followed the rep's instructions, and he reduced it back to the usual $70. They're a fine company, but I'm moving again so I'm hunting good rates but with a good company. I may just renew with StarTex. I also go paperless and pay bills online on 100% renewable power. Pros: Nice Customer Reps, Online billing, Green Cons: Long wait to reach Customer Rep, No service transfer

Good at the beginning then prices went up
I've had StarTexPower for a while now. Their promotional or beginning rates are good but since I moved to the new place, the price has gone up significanly (avg 13.69 cents, which is much higher than the initial price). Although I did not select the fixed option, increase from 5.2 cents to 13.69 cents is just too much. The first impression I got from this company was that they would care about such significant increase or maybe advise their customers of the high increase in price... but that's not the case.
Also, in this day and age, their bill payment system seems to be very outdated. Launches into a separate window, no email confirmation, etc.
Time to start looking for another provider...unfortunately.

Displeased customer
I recently switched my business account to StarTex Power where they say their
customers are treated like a star! This is the farthest from the truth! I have
found that their customer service people are rude and of no help at all! I would
strongly discourage anyone from signing with this company. I have switched
and will never consider them in the future!

Used to be awesome, now billing nightmare
I've been a StarTex supporter since 2008. They were awesome - had the lowest rate, and offered great customer service. However, they were purchased by another company and things have gone downhill with their billing. I was double billed once (which was actually Oncor's fault) but it took months to straighten out because of StarTex's inability to generate a bill in a timely manner. Even though I had no bill to even pay, I got collection notices and daily phone calls about not paying the erroneous bill. Most recently, I moved, and even though I was assured my rate would stay the same since I stayed in the same service area, my rate went up 1.45 cents per kWh. I called and they generated a new bill, except kept the same rate. I called again, and they generated a new bill, but this time, they only gave me a credit for less than half of my usage. I had received a new meter, and they only credited what was on the new meter. My contract is up in less than a month and will be finding a new provider. It's a shame they were bought out and the customer service has gone down hill so much. As they say "StarTex, where customer service is always free" - what they don't say is that it's not always right.

Big issues - Faithful Customer + Contract of Promises
Been with StarTex for 2 years and have been very satisfied. Billing is clear and I especially like that if I've forgotten to pay my bill by a certain date, StarTex will send me an email reminder a few days before the bill is due. And had alway recommended @ more than 50 times in pass years. However, until I saw that the new rates they're offering for existing customer @ June 17, 2012, so I had sign up early. After all, I never had any problems with their service. Always helpful over the phone and online, they made it easy on me every time I've had to renew early. But, After little over month later got an unexpected renewal contract mail, said that due to StarTex Power were purchased by another company and things have to change. What ???!!!! Why me???So, now the StarTex Power staff saying they cant find my contract and they want me to use their month-to-month plan rate 20 cent per KWH.*(use under 500 kWh )That rate is too high !!!!!! Very dissapointing !!!! jacked my rates sky high!!!!What happening about my last early renewal contract that was promises to me ??? That was @ June 17, 2012 and June 18, 2012. I did sign up online and got confirmed two time by email, again !!!!On June 18, 2012 they had told me their computer system had little error, but they will honor my online renewal contract. That why she had resend me another WEB ### CONFIRMED AND LOCK ME IN FOR another three months renewalcontract new rate @ 9.1 per kWh.Do they want my business ??? Plans offered to existing customers
I have been a customer of StarTex since October of last year and have been very pleased with their service. Twice I have signed up for the three month plan, but at this renewal period, it is not offered. I asked via live chat if I could sign up for the three month plan and was told to call customer service and they may be able to sign me up. Customer service would not sign me up and was not concerned that I would cancel my service and switch to another company. I mentioned that the three month plan is offered to new customers and she suggested that I cancel my existing and sign-up as a new customer under my husband's name. That has to be the dumbest solution I have ever been offered by customer service representative. She could not offer and explanation as to why it was not being offered to existing customers. I would think that StarTex would be more inclined to offer existing customers better deals, so they will not cancel.

No more 3 month plans 6 months in. Total bait and switch.
I have been using StarTex since last September after seeing a competitive price listing on powertochoose and a recommendation from family members. Everything about managing my bill payments and my first renewal was excellent, but now that I try to renew my bill for 3 months again the second time, I was told I can only opt for a year or more. I have 6 months left on my lease, StarTex, you aren't amazing enough that I am going to pay an early termination fee or go on some wallet gouging month to month plan to continue your services.

Startex does not want to retain its customers
I have been a Startex customer for over 8 months (signed two, 3 month contracts and stayed on variable rates for the remaining months). I reached out to their customer service via their website chat option and was told that they couldn't offer me the same rate as advertised on Powertochoose.org because those prices were not available for renewals, even though I am out of my contract. It seems that the company is more focused on getting new customers rather than retaining their current customers. Also, their rates are on the high end compared to some of the other providers. To be fair, I have had no issues with billing and received contract expiration notices timely. I am just irked at the fact that they would rather charge their existing and on-time paying customers more than new customers. To top things off they sent me an email for referral bonuses. Why would I want to refer anyone to Startex if they won't do enough to retain me as a customer?

Price is very restricted and high for existing customers
We have been with Startexpower since 2006. It's always hard to get a better rate as an existing customer. Tried to talk to Startexpower cusomer service a few times about the rate a few years ago, the only answer was that they did not really need our business. Being a very loyal customer for seven years, it is sad to find out Startexpower does not need a loyal customer.

Power OK; Integrity, Not
Our power service has been fine but it's time to renew our contract and I am reluctant to do it. Startex is not 100% honest and this is why I say this.We had a sparking line outside our window so we did the natural thing: we called the emergency number on our bill. This is actually a number for Centerpoint, who shares guilt in the following fiasco. They sent out a technician to see about the situation. The tech concluded that the line belonged to our landlord, not them, and promptly left. The cost for 2 minutes of this guy's time? $50 on our next bill. They never once notified us of this charge; if they had, we wouldn't have called Startex-Centerpoint. We'd have called 911.Startex was nothing but evasive when I called multiple times to tell them I was never informed of the $50 charge. It was either pay or get dropped. In the end I paid when I realized their system is designed to frustrate you to the point that you'll just give up. They never issued so much as an apology. Disgusting behavior. We hate them for that.

I have been a Star Tex Customer prior to the acquisition. Their Customer Service used to be good. Their pricing used to be competitive. I will probably not have a choice this year and will have to change providers. The rate I have been quoted for renewal screams LEAVE! They are not even in the market of competing for business anymore. Their competitors have got them beat in pricing.
They got paid on time, and I have been a loyal client. There is no reward in loyalty.

They don't want to retain their customers
It has come time for me to renew my contract with StarTex. If I use below 500 kWh per month, they were charging me $4.99 as a minimum usage fee. Now they want to charge me $9.33 for a minimum usage fee for 1000 kWh, but I normally only between 500 and 900 kWh per month. This is a double whammy for me, which will be about a $100 increase per year in energy costs for me. When I tried to call and talk to customer service, she was nonplussed and told me that she couldn't do anything about retaining my custom. Sad really, as I like to be a loyal customer. Doubling the fees is a heavy-handed way to hike their rates. Before this, I had been very happy with them.

Used to love...not anymore
I have been with StarTex since July 2009. Every year, I have renewed with the 12 month contract, and I have been very happy. No issues with billing, and when I have had to contact them (I believe only twice over almost 4 years), no issues. They have resolved things to my satisfaction each and everytime. This year, I go to renew...wham, 9.99 fee unless you use 1,000 KwH. Well, my family only does that about 3 times a year. I was ok with the 4.99 fee for 500 kw, as we usually do that. I had seen some people talk about calling their CS and that they could offer the 4.99. Not true...just got off the phone with them, and they said I could only do the 9.99 fee. So, I guess I go with another company now. I am not willing to pay 9.99 a month because I don't leave my lights on and run the AC 24/7. Ridiculous...

Disappointed
After having Star Tex Power for a couple of years I wanted to transfer my service to my new home. I was unable to do so, because they do not update their systems. I was forced to find another company. Even after being in the new home 9 months, Star Tex still has our home listed as a commercial meter. I was even told by the customer service rep to just pay commercial pricing! Before we moved into the home Center Point was sent out to verify if it is indeed commercial or residential. After verification Star Tex is the only company that has us listed as a commercial meter. Very disappointed.

Supervisor Hung Up On Me!!
I have been battling for almost a week now to get a charge removed from my bill for $40. I have been a loyal customer for 2 years now. I have never called to complain. I've never not paid my bill. I've never had a credit on my account. After speaking with a customer service Rep and her supervisor I asked for a higher supervisor. Then I got Simon in the collections department. After stating my case to him he became very rude. He began talking over me. He was very snappy. I asked him about customer service and this is how you treat people and he said well I'm in the claims department and I can do that. Several more rude statements were made before I finally gave up and demanded his supervisor. He said there was no one else above him. He was the final spoken word on my matter at hand. He then cut me off to let me go. I told him to not hang up and connect me with someone else... And then he just hung up on me!!
I am so shocked at how I was treated. I'm in the customer service industry and I cannot believe that happened. So disappointed. I was such a fan too...

Having been very happy with StarTex Power for the last 7 or so years, my annual contract is now up for renewal. Unfortunately their rates have soared and are no longer competitive. For a 12 month fixed contract they are offering 9.6c per kwh when competitors are offering 8.4c per kwh. Sorry StarTex. I've called a couple of times but was told this was your best offer. I've been with StarTex for close to four years and have been happy. However, I recently renewed for six months with StarTex and wasn't told verbally the minimum usage fee is now 1,000 KwH instead of 500 and was hit with a $9.95 fee. hen I called to express my concern to customer service, Angie became belligerent and confrontational. Not only did the meter reading not go for the full month, it was only 29 days and I was barely under the usage. When I tried to explain this she said Oncor controls it and they weren't removing it. It was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. I asked for a supervisor and am still waiting on a call back. Leaving after seven years
I have had Startex Power for seven years and was pretty pleased. Recently (and without notice) they raised the minimum usage level from 500 kwh to 1000 kwh and DOUBLED the minimum usage fee from $4.95 to $9.95. I don't plan on paying an extra $10 a month for at least half the year for being conservative with my energy. There's way too much competition with power companies where I live for that. I will be cancelling and switching the minute my contract expires.

Good grief! I just got my first bill from StarTex and I believe that I chose the wrong company to provide my electricity.I retired and moved from MN back home to TX last month and I can't believe how much more expensive electricity is here than with my electric coop back in MN. I am now paying 12.333/KwH here after paying 5.4/KwH in MN. I live in a 750 sq ft apt and I make a concerted effort to conserve on my energy usage. The very same amount of KwH would have cost me $35.91 in MN rather than the outlandish price of $81.99. $46 Is $46.regardless of whether or not I am on a fixed budget or not. It's illogical to keep paying a high rate like this one! After only one month with StarTex, I'll be looking elsewhere!

I've been a Startex customer for several years now, Last year I willing signed up for another 12 months. Would NOT Recommend-Horrible Customer Service
My problem is with billing and customer service. When you need to talk to someone, do you want to hold for an hour. If you do, this might be the company for you. We use online bill pay. StarTex stated that they didn't receive an electronic payment even though we had proof from Chase bank. They even went so far as to say they didn't receive electronic payments. Something is very fishy. Chase even laughed when they stated they don't take electronic payments? They asked if you could pay over the phone. When I said yes, they said they take electronic payments. When you call, you are on hold for 45 minutes or longer. If I were you, I would go with a company that is honest and you can actually get ahold of. My advice, stay far away from them. Anything we saved was spent on my time to deal with the payment issue.

I currently am signed up with StarTex and have been happy with them through my one year contract since moving into my home. Their renewal price offered was not competitive. After researching rates I went to renew through Powertochoose.org with StarTex because they had a competitive price advertised. After entering all mo information to sign up I got a pop up that said the rate was for new (move-in) customers only. It did not state this at powertocheeose.org. That's not good advertising. I'm switching to a different company for a better rate then they offered for my renewal. I wanted to stay with one company but they prevented that.

Poor Customer Service
Every time that I've been able to speak with someone at Startex Power they've been able to help me with my problem. However, they rarely respond to emails that you send them for service. I also have the Signals program on my computer that tracks when someone opens an email that you send - Startex typically takes 1 week to open my email.
When Startex Power switched software programs the system forced a move out on my account so my power was turned off unexpectedly and I was charged a big disconnect fee. They were able to turn it back on within the day, but it was frustrating that it was off at all and that I had to sign on with a higher rate. Since then I've been receiving letters from collections for the old account, which is very confusing because there seems to be no rhyme or reason to when they send the letters and I've been told several times by phone that the account is completely paid in full.

Check your bill instead of your contract
The customer service department really needs work. We use them as a commercial provider at work. My contract states it runs from August 2014 to February 2015, no actual day of the month. We signed a contract on March 4th and that contract states it runs from March 2015 to March 2016. When we received our next bill it was at the higher "floater rate." I contacted them immediately and I was told I would receive a call back. No call back so I contacted them again and I was told no notes on the account. I was then told to contact my service rep who told me he was out of the office and would contact me the next day but did not. Three days later I contacted him and I was told they have the actual contract dates in their office and I should check my bill for the actual day of the month the contract takes place. I was not under contract and he would credit this bill to my old rate but I would now have to pay the late fee because it took so long to resolve the bill is past due.

Have gone way downhill since I signed up 4 years ago.. stay away
Have been a loyal on time paying customer for 4 years but not after today. They had great rates when I signed up years ago and the customer service was on point as well. I have noticed the last year or so when I call in I don't get the same friendly customer service and the rates haven't been quite as competitive when I've renewed.
I called today for renewal and they said the only thing they could offer me was a 1,2, or 3, year plan. I won't ever do more than a 1 year plan as I rent not own. I know you can transfer service but I just get worried with doing more than a year contract on anything when I could be moving soon and possibly not be able to transfer the service where I go. I found a 6 month plan they offer online and it was a much lower rate. When I asked about this he said I couldn't do anything less than a 1 year. I asked them if they were saying they'd rater loose a long term customer who's always paid on time rather than give me a 6 month plan and said YES, CANCEL!!! I can not believe a company would choose to loose business. I called in again to ask to speak with a manager and he was rude and said well just cancel then. So that's exactly what I did. Signed up with another company and actually did a 12 month but they were offering 3 cents less per kwh at the 12 month plan and more renewable than Startex. It's too bad, they were a good company at first but I'd advise to stay away now.

Have to leave, here is why
We have been a customer since 2006 and our contract is up for renewal. I figure to save 20% on a 24 month term compared to StarTex best offer. I've stayed in the past even though the rate was higher than available and I got no rate consideration for customer loyalty when I renewed but figured it better to dance with the devil I knew. I would have stayed this time as well but for one thing... I didn't like the way I was treated when I called to renew. The young lady answering my call was nice but she was in a hard sell position and tried to double talk me into believing that the 10.3 cent per kwh offer was better than a 8.5 cent offer that had the same terms. Desperation is all I can offer to say.
We had no beef with StarTex up until that point. Of course, my wife pays the bills and is always on time with them so there is no real reason for a problem.
StarTex remains in the upper quartile of price point.

Auto Pay Problem
I went with Startex because they had a great rate. This was my second to use them. I received my first bill and in Large Bold Red Letters it said "Do not pay, payment will be made electronically." I checked their website which confirmed that I was set up on auto pay. I get the second bill, it shows a past due balance and a late penalty fee. Again, it had the bold red statement saying "do not pay". I called the company for an explanation, after long hold time, it turned out I wasn't set up on auto pay. They said that possibly because I was a previous customer and was previously on auto pay, generated that notation. I said fine, please remove the fee and lets get me set up on auto pay. Gave my credit card info, etc. Was put on hold again. Then the very same customer service rep that I had been speaking with for over 45 minutes came back informed me that I had a past due balance and asked if I would like to go ahead and take care of that now before a disconnect notice was sent out! I was so shocked! I said, "Seriously? This is John, correct? The same guy I've been talking to for the last 45 minutes trying to get a billing error taken care of!". He said yes mam, then repeated that I had a past due balance and that I would soon be receiving a disconnect notice if I didn't take care of it! I told him that I was done with him and asked to speak to a supervisor. After another long hold time, the supervisor came on and defended John's statement saying that he was just trying to help me out! I had to give my credit card info to her to pay my "past due" balance. I'm so thankful that it was only a 3 month contract! I don't have time for this nonsense!

Not Happy
This company is terrible once you go out of your contract, more than doubled my rate unless I signed for a 12 month contract at not such a good rate. I had automatic billing and I still received a late payment notice and notice that my electricity would be turned off followed by another bill a couple of days later telling me not to pay this account, very confusing and caused extra clutter in my life. You would think they would reward you for faithful service after your first contract, but no, they will stick it to their faithful customers. Will not be back again, too many other choices out there. Customer service cordial, but cold and unsympathetic.

Great Rates, HORRIBLE service
Tried to get on their plan, as I have been using electric carriers in my name for 30 years with various companies and PERFECT credit. Never needed a deposit. Startex is trying to get me to deposit $350 (even pushing it on me). I put a security on my credit report to be notified if anyone looks at it. This requires them to get the name of a person at the credit bureau who calls me to get my permission, then I call the creditor to proceed with a credit check, or the credit bureau can call them; either way. This is what all companies have been doing. StarTex CS has no idea what to do, clearly stated that in our conversation, while I explained and said get your supervisor. He announced that his super was on the phone listening. Then the CS wants me to call the credit bureau because he doesn't know what to do but use another phone to call Credit Bureau, then tell them it's ok. I say, that's not how it works for me since I don't have another phone and no clue who to call back on a random call center. The dude says, "I am the best source for knowledge here". At which point I proceeded to say with authority, "You ARE NOT the best source of knowledge or you would KNOW what to do here and clearly you don't". I hung up when he kept insisting he was the best source. Delusional. And his super never stepped up to stop him. I guess he agrees and supports his stupid CS.

Don't do autopay!
I made the mistake of putting the bill on autopay. The month before my credit card expired, I received my new credit card and changed it online for the autopay. I kept getting all these notices stating that my credit card on autopay was expiring. I knew I'd changed it, so I go look. Yep, right expiration. Still get notices. Now I'm thinking, notices are wack! Some sort of error? Still, I'm worried, cause I don't want to be late so I keep an eye on it. I log in the day it's due and look. Doesn't show a payment, but I figure, it will the next day cause it probably process at night. The following day, still shows no payment. Again double check autopay credit card on file. Shows the correct information. Send an email to company asking about what the issue is. Three days later get an email stating the old credit card date on file, but if I've changed it, not to worry. So I don't. Keep getting emails and text messages. Even though I see the correct date, I change it again. Three days after I've changed it the second time, I get a notice they are going to disconnect. I contact them and they say they see I just changed the date three days earlier and therefore, it was out of date when it processed. They want me to pay right then and there. No thanks. I don't trust these people. When I finally get a second supervisor I'm told that the credit card information has to be changed on both the auto pay area and the regular payment area?????? Sure. Right. If that were the case, then why does it have a notice, to change credit card date for auto pay, as a link that takes me to the one place to change it. Also, why would I need to have it in two places. Sounds like excuses for a poorly designed system and scapegoating customers for their issues.

I tried to pay a bill and it kept declining payment because the zip code on the account was wrong. I contacted them three times with no correction. TEN FULL MINUTES to ask me my name, my social, the address and my email to change the damn zip code and pay a bill.

Beware of Deceptive Practice
Three complaints/observations: 1) Despite having signed up for autopay, I received a disconnection notice and a late charge. Had to contact their billing office to resolve. 2) All communications from StarTex had been via email - except the contract expiration/renewal notice - which StarTex claim they sent me more than 30 days before my contract expired. I never received it, and StarTex refuses - or can't - prove that they mailed it. Why didn't they send me the expiration notice by email? In my opinion it's StarTex' standard practice to entrap customers into paying more. After the contract expired, StarTex more than doubled my rate, so I promptly cancelled. Conversations with customer service or Rosa in the compliance department went nowhere, only in circles. 3) The promotion rate was attractive, but the renewal offer not competitive. To me, StarTex is good only for one contract term, if even that.

Fine if you don't leave
Would not use again. Price to leave is $78 even when your contact is over. Got a great electricity rate so I chose this company over bigger names but when it was time to renew the offer they made was no longer competitive so I switched. Turns out an "Oncor Electric Company Surcharges Approved" showed up on my last invoice, even though I was out of contract. The price to switch electric companies varies and in my opinion, anything over $20 is way too much, especially for something automated. Exact actual price to end service is not disclosed in terms of service, only a mention that a fee may be changed. Also had some billing problems - signed up for auto-pay but didn't charge my card for some reason one month (even though they had the 4 months prior) then called to say my bill was overdue, and I had to go online and pay again. Later appologized via automated email.

Crappy Information from Customer Service
I was charged almost an additional 11 days of service, without my knowledge, for power I never used. In fact it was power the next tenant was using on a higher premium rate! The information I received from the company when setting up my power was false, leading to overcharging and a complete lack of carrying from the customer service personnel. The customer service representative argued that I had never even called in, essentially calling me a liar. I am extremely displeased with the service I received from StarTex.

Late Payment for Nov. 2017
Hello,
I am the current customer but very disappointed with how your company handle the paymentS, especially for Nov. 2017. I received a Disconnect Notice due to late payment for Nov.2017. Well, my bank account indicated that payment of $70.09 was withdrawn by Startex Power on 12Dec2017. I called Starxtex Customer service to explain today 12/22 and was told that still the amount has not been received. Startex requested me to send in the proof of payment and I did. I am very upset and definitely dont want to waist my time to help resolve your internal issues. Please do something to improve your service next time.

Star Tex Power - Hidden Rate Increases
Star Tex Power raised my rates without any notice; my bill went from my fixed rate of 11 cents to over 20 cents per kilowatt! I didn't even notice for two months; when we called to ask why they didn't contact us about our contract expiring, the customer service rep said "we got too many complaints for calling, so we quit doing that..." Up until my contract expired, I was fairly happy with Star Tex... now I would not recommend them based on my experience.

Beware their "late fee scam"
Give yourself a good 5-7 business days prior to the due date if you bank on-line, since they refuse to set up an electronic relationship with anyone but Wells Fargo. 3 times I've gone through this. If you send your payment through another bank along with your other monthly bills, leave lots of lead time, otherwise you'll get a nice pink greeting from them in the mail along with a late fee charged to their next bill. Then, when you call to see what happened and ensure that your service is still on, they make you feel like you, as the customer, have done something wrong by banking on-line, and not going to one of their preferred payment systems (mail, call their payment number over the phone, or wells fargo). Excuse me for not wanting to jack around with 20 different service providers and desiring to handle and manage my bill payments through my own bank on-line. As soon as my current contract expires, I will be leaving this provider.

Deceptive Promo
Watch out when you are comparing rates. Star Tex currently advertises 8.5/kWh for their month to month plan, one of the lowest labeling it a "promotional rate". You have to assemble information from two separate places on their web site find out what "promotional" means. If you are a NEW customer, you only get this deceptive teaser rate for one month. After a new customer's first month, or if you are a Star Tex customer and your contract ends, the current month to month rate is really 12.6, which is about 25% higher and one of the highest month to month rates.

Awful!!!
I switched to StarTex after Texas Power began raising our rates into the $.22 range without notice that our plan had expired. StarTex was great at first, bills stayed low then found out they had been estimating for months. Long story short, ended up paying over $700 in one month ON TIME and they still disconnected us the day after I came home from the hospital after major surgery. It took hours and numerous threats to "supervisors" for them to admit I had payed my bills on time & they never should have disconnected our service in the first place. Even the Oncor employee that came to disconnect us said that he has heard lots of complaints on StarTex. They claim to have great customer service but it is among the worst I have ever seen right behind TexasPower. Swithched to Champion and hoping for a better experience.

CAVEAT EMPTOR
Purchase from Startex ever again? _ _ _ _ No. I ordered a variable rate plan that started at a wonderful rate- about $0.072 per kw. They do mention that they can raise the price at their own discretion at any time. What they never mention in the terms is that yes, they are about to raise your rate after only one month of the promotional rate and yes, you will be shocked at how cavalier they are about dinging you once you have been roped in. The idea that anyone would agree to have their rates raised by 64% after only one month (from 7.2 cents to 11.8) is so ludicrous that it won't enter into your thinking as a reasonable prospect, unless someone tells you in plain language that it will happen and that this is apparently routine business to Startex- hence my review here. Don't take a promotional rate unless you have done an exhaustive study of how your account will be handled after the first short period of service. They leave all mention of that out except by inference in "legalese".

As many have noted, this company will sneakily jack up your rates if
you're not paying attention. They'll lure you in with a low introductory

at the end of your term and hope it takes you a while to notice.

.14 c and .17c month to month trap
I have been with them since 2007. When in a contract there are not many issues. I have 2 accounts with them on auto debit. One time they debited one account, but not the other and sent me disconnection notice and fees demand. Notice, both accounts use the same CC. Took the fees off, but not off my record. Hmm. I have been off the contract for who knows how long. My month to month rate right now is 14 and 17 cents. Quite a high rate compare with 8 cents you can find somewhere else. I called several months ago and they offered like 12 cents which is way higher than others. My son got a much cheaper promotional rate at his apartment as a new customer. I guess they don't care about loyal customers! Very dissapointing. On the other hand I like they offer auto debit by CC and more organized than some other outfits around. I lost a lot of money being month to month for a couple of years and ready to move my business somewhere else.

StarTex stuck it to me!
I had been with StarTex for several years and was happy with them until I received my bill yesterday. My variable rate excluding TDU surcharged increased 46%, from $.0879 to $.1286, from the June 2012 to July 2012 bill. I don't see how "market fluctuations" could account for such a huge increase. I checked their 12 month contract rate and StarTex is not offering competitive rates like they used to. Their current 12 month rate is $.108 kwh. For comparison I just signed a 12 month contract with Cirro for $.09 per kwh. Both quoted rates include fixed charges and are based on 1,000 kwh of usage. On the Power to Choose website about 70% of the competing 12 month plans are cheaper than StarTex. If your renewal is coming up with StarTex it is definitely time to shop.

In Dec. of 2011 I signed a 3 yr. contract expecting to be operating my business for another 10 yrs.Unfortunetly, my parents in Vietnam (my homeland) have been sick and decided to sell my businessand move back home. The new owners and I have signed a Bill of Sale with no transferable debts, contracts, liabilities, etc. They have other cleaners and have the same REP they have had for over 20 yrs. and will not transfer the contract with StarTex, Because of that I will have to pay thousands of $7,000 in penalties. I am shocked, disheartened, because it will cost me to make this move and I cannotafford that kind of cost. I asked the new owner to consider transferring, but his rate with his preferred REP is .001 less. I cant blame them. Ive been told to file a complaint with PUC. Can anybody else help me? Should I hire and attorney? At this point the cost of an attorney may be less, if you can believe it. I;ve told my story over and over and everyone tells me that it cannot be. The best part is an even lower rate than this crooked co would offer me (.084) and don't bother with your phony offer to contact me from Startex which I see with ever complaint here, after three phone calls to even reach a supervisor, at Startex, I don't won't any more.

Expect 250% jump on your electricity rate when you forget to renew contract with this company
Being a loyal customer with Startex for years, I recommend the company to my friends when they ask for suggestions, as I got the impression that their customer service was excellent.
Not when I got a $220+ bill which is twice as much as I have ever received. The reason? They changed the way to renew your policy when contract expires. Instead of variable (or flexible) rate they used to put your account on after contract expiration, they now have something called "transition" rate. Guess what? The rate is $20 cents/kwh. The only thing I'm glad about? My normal electricity bill is only about $100. I could have got a heart attack if I got a $400 bill.
Run away from the company! That's my suggestion now if anybody ask for opinion.

HELL NO two weeks later I'm back in town and come home to no lights. They give you no lee way. I have 3yr old twin daughters this was an outrage for me and them. I call. And ask them can they reconnect and I could pay it the next morning when I get paid and the response I got was unfortunately our system is automatic and we can not restore power until the balance is paid in full and even then there is a reconnect fee. If the payments are not sent in at least 10 days early to StarTex office in Dallas, StarTex will start sending out "Late Notices". Called StarTex up, they insist that they process ALL received Bills the same day. BS!! I am tired trying to get my payments mailed in 2 weeks early, seeing how StarTex (now Constellation) can not get their act together or at least acknowledge that they have a problem, I have decided to take all my business to Champion. So long suckers!

Unfair overcharging & poor customer service
Star Tex Piwer has claimed good customer service in the past. Now I would say that is in the past. They have over charged me. Representative's are rude and unhelpful. Forget about speaking to management. Be prepared to be labeled if you have problems with them. Labeled unfairly financially and with service.

Rates keep going higher
I have been with your business for years and I recently talked to your representative before April 10th for locking in low rates. Your rep said it would be 8.6 per kwH. She told me I could not lock in this rate. My contract will end May 24th, 2013. I am only able to lock in the rates after April 10th. She also told me the rates go up and down. It sounds like I have to call in every day to find low rates. I called again after April 10th and the rep told me it is now 8.9. Four days ago I called again and now it is 9.3. They transferred me to another department and they would give me it at 9.0. I said I have to think about it. Sounds like I can never get it back at 8.6 when I first called in. Your rates looks like it always goes up, never down. I think this is a game trap. I don't appreciate your customer service. I spent a lot of time calling in and it's not going low just high.

Need to read your bill statement
A note of advise: you need to read your monthly bill statement, and also be careful when you switch even after the contract expires. Additional charge is adding to your account every so often. Hate to call in every time to argue, but you can try to get over charged money back.

StarTex is forcing the low usage customers to leave!
I am facing the same minimum usage fee issue too!
StarTex paid no effort in retaining their current customers - and raise the minimum usage bar and penalty! They used to only charge $4.99 for usage below 500 kWh per month, but increased the fee to $9.33 for a minimum usage fee for 1000 kWh! Customer service rep is not helpful either and said there's nothing else she can do.
I hope Startex will keep their old policy to service users with lower usage (without penalizing them!)- or else they are just gonna drive their loyal customers away!

$9.95 minimum usage charge on <1000 kwh doesn't make sense!!
I have been a startex power customer for more than 3 years now. It's time for me to renew but was shocked to see the min charge increased from $4.99 to $9.95 and criteria changed from <500kwh to <1000kwh. I am a student and never use more than 1000kwh in a month. This is clearly a way to extract extra money from the customers as I will end up paying $120 a year just because I don't waste electricity! Outrageous!!Highly disappointed by this move from Startex.

Watch out your bill!!!!!
I've been with this company for over 3 years. I used to really happy with the rate they have to offer until this year. I did not receive any contract expire like I used to. The price went up and I did not know because they did not send me the bill in the mail any more. I called in to ask why I was not notified this year. The representative said it was sent out both in the mail and e-mail.. I checked many times from all the mails I had but not found. The new rate for renew changed from $4.99 for min 499 kWh to$9.45.. I told him I was offered from Reliant Energy with lower rate plus $150 credit, he said he cannot do anything about. Okay then.. time to say bye..

Whatch out for Star Tex contract
I have been with Star Tex a few years and let contract expire, they go straight to the highest rate they can give you in my case from .9 to .14 increasing my bill by more than a third. They do not care about retaining there customers, I would not suggest them to any one, they give you the excuse of sorry that what it is, when just about every other company out there has month to month for about .10 average. THATS bad business policy and that's how you loose customers. Thanks Ken

I've been a StarTex power customer for 2 years and my renewal is approaching. To my surprise StarTex has decided to increase the penalty for conserving electricity from $4.99 to $9.95 per month and raised the usage from <500kwh to <1000kwh. Use LESS pay MORE. What a deal! Startex refuses to apply payment properly after I sent them copy of cancelled check
I've been with Startex for a few years, and I have learned that they lack the competence to process 2 invoices (for 2 accounts I have) that I mailed them in their own envelope. They cashed the check but refused to apply the money to my accounts. Then they threatened to cut off my service if I didn't pay the amount due (of which the money had already been received, accepted and cashed!). I had to give them a credit card over the phone to stop my power from being cut off. I sent then a copy of the front and back of the cancelled check along with emails AND THEY STILL DIDN'T ALLOCATE THE FUNDS TO MY ACCOUNT PROPERLY.Customer service is a joke as these folks dont even know how StarTex does the billing, how they apply funds received and then they tell me the computer allocates the money a certain way when its received. Well, if that's the case, why the heck do they have a line below the amount due on the invoice where we the customer are asked to fill in how we want the check allocated ??????? This alone is mis-representation and another scam to squeeze WRONGFUL late charges out of you. Anyone out there know of a good lawyer to sue this company? I'm confident in a suit we can get their records of 1,000's of people they do this to all the time to add as additional plaintiffs.

My monthly bill(s) have more than TRIPLED (from$ 80.00 - $ 350.00) with NO ADDITIONAL ELECTRICITY USED! Have made SEVERAL calls. NO ONE HAS ANSWERS. Suggested we are turning all the lights on at one time....power surge.
LOCATION IS AN EMPTY NON RENTED LOCATION.
WAIT time for phone calls averaged well OVER the 30 minutes they project!! Today, I spent almost an hour waiting to speak to a representative. Several times I have been disconnected while they put me on hold to research this. Another 30 plus minutes on hold.... TOTALLY NOT ACCEPTABLE!
In their favor, once you speak to a representative, they are pleasant and try to be helpful. Unfortunately, their answers are generalized. Since December, I have asked to speak to a supervisor. 16 calls later, someone actually did call me back. They were going to look into the problem. Never heard back re: solution. So NOTHING HAS CHANGED. SO VERY UNHAPPY!!! BEWARE!!!!

What happened to this company?
Didn't receive my March bill when I was expecting it. Finally, it showed up on line. I was billed for 832 kwh. The cost for electricity was about $90. They added an additional $1900.00 to the bill. It was itemized as a "check refund". When calling, the wait is usually over 45 minutes. I got ahold of a guy in another department who said he would e-mail my concerns to the appropriate department. The next day someone called and left me a voice mail saying they were working on it and would call me back. They didn't. They don't respond to e-mails. Finally spoke to another rep who couldn't explain the added charge. It's been almost a week and they still haven't corrected the bill. My contract expires this August. I'll be looking elsewhere. I have been with StarTex for about 4 years. I have never received such horrible customer service from anyone like this. Called Constellation....they don't seem to care. It's time for a PUC complaint.

I signed up with StarTex last year because of the fabulous reviews. But I have been mightily disappointed. The difficulties with the website "upgrade" were bad enough, but now I received the notice that my renewal will be month-to-month at a much higher price, of course. No information given on the rate to renew for a year or any other period of time. I checked Power-to-Choose and found only a 3-month plan. I called customer twice because I didn't believe that, and the wait to speak to someone is 30 minutes!!! Who has time to be on hold for hour? What are they thinking? I emailed last week, got an automated response that it would be answered, and still no answer. So how on earth are you supposed to get a hold of these people in order to get information about renewal? I have no choice but to switch companies.

I cannot even log into my account and SEE invoices. Since they seem to have problems sending invoices on a consistent basis, I have to remember to go login to see what I am being billed for. If you ever have anything out of the ordinary happen on your account, there is no way to get any help or answers without RIDICULOUS wait times on the phone. They don't have an estimate for the wait time, and the hold music is the most frustrating short loop that repeatedly gets your hopes up. I relocated recently, and my husband called to arrange power. Apparently, he wasn't primary on the old address so he couldn't cancel the old account but they let him set up the new one. I cancelled the old one a couple of days later. Now, they are trying to collect an early termination fee for the first account even though it was a relocation. I have sent them documentation multiple times by email, but they continue calling to pester me to collect the money. When I return the call, I can never wait long enough to get a person on the line. They answer the phone immediately, but that initial person can only take payments or sign up new accounts, not provide customer service. Never been more irritated with a company before. I hate them. They were great... not any more. Constellation is to blame.
It all went down the toilet quick once Constellation completely took them over (2013). First they changed the website, which changed the bill payment system. Autopay doesn't work one month. It charges my card 5 times the next. Customer service is clueless after being on hold 75+ minutes. Before the sale, I was never on hold longer than 5 minutes, and customer service was knowledgeable and could fix mistakes! Not anymore. The rate I signed my contract changed - due to a "PUCT approved rate adjustment." They passed the charge on to me. It's their right - it says so in the contract. It's also my right to leave them after my contract is up. Marcie Zlotnik - you are deeply missed. I have been with Startex for over 3 years and had nothing but praise until Constellation took over. When renewing the new offered rates charged 9.95 for low use. I called to cancel and was offered to stay at same rate I previously had. When my contract was not updated and my bill was late I spent more then 20 hours on phone trying to get my bill and to get Startex to honor agreed on bill. It is now 7 months later and my bills are still messed up and I cannot get a straight answer from Customer Service or a promised call back from a supervisor. Something is seriously wrong with this company as they don't have the ability to bill correctly and customer service does not have the ability to resolve or correct any issue. In the past 7 months my bills have twice skipped months and I still don't believe they are charging me the correct rate. Once Great - Not Anymore!
Was a loyal customer for years, but recently their decline in customer service and care has made me reconsider. They were always so great about letting me know when my contract was about to expire (a huge perk in my opinion) and providing me different renewal plans with incentives based on length of service I could sign up for. This must be a thing of the past. I did not get a renewal notice this time (via email or postal mail) what I got was a big fat bill with outrageously charges once my contract had lapsed. I called customer services and they were anything but helpful - all they tried to do was push me into another contract. When I was on hold for nearly 10 minutes I had time to explore other much, much more reasonable options and told the customer service agent I'd be taking my business elsewhere. They couldn't care less. After over 5 years of customer loyalty, I feel that this company has gone downhill. I would not recommend them at all!

Terrible Experience Trying to Cancel
I had no problem with StarTex when I was a Customer. The problem came when I moved and had to cancel service. They charged a $150 early termination fee that they do very kindly offer to refund when you show proof that you moved. That was good news! The bad news is it's now been 7 months since I cancelled service and I STILL haven't received my full refund. It's been 7 months of back and forth emails and phone calls to get it resolved. I will say each person I've talked to has been very kind and professional, but the problem is they don't follow up when they say they will and haven't resolved the situation for an extraordinarily long amount of time. I have wasted so much time having to email and call to get this handled. They were a fine provider, rates were good, and the people are nice--but this experience has been so so frustrating.

It's easy to start but to renew....
Contract came to an end....they raised their rates (not a biggie) but when you try to renew....it's MORE! compared to what's in their mailings. You call and speak to someone, they play the tag game and send you to another operator in which you are on hold for a Loooooonnnnnnngggggg time! Finally gave up as it seems they don't care about my account so I left.....see ya StarTex!

After 6 years with Startex I to stopped getting bills after changing my contract. I spoke with customer unservice 6 times no help. They promised they would not send a past due or turn off my service and now they are doing both. I'm running as far as I can. If they try to hit me with a termination fee I will pay it the same way they send there bills, never. Stick it where the sun don't shine Startex.

Lack of customer convenience!!!
I always had difficulty paying my bills due to lack of accessibility. My account was not accessible online to allow me to pay my bill more efficiently, despite my attempts to get this resolved, but it never was. The automated payment system would not recognize my account either, therefore I resorted to having to "hold for the next available customer service specialist" for at least half an hour "due to extremely high call volumes" to make my payments with a customer service representative each month. This was such a terrible experience! "At StarTex Power, customer service is our number one priority." ?? I would highly NOT recommend this company.

unnecessary fees for no reason
I had very bad experience with the billing of Star Tex Power. It has automatic bill payment through checking account and I have provided all the details and setup for automatic payments. After 2 weeks when I checked the Star Tex Power account online, I could still see the amount due and the bill was not processed trough my automatic payments. I provided my account details again for automatic payments and though this time it would process the billing. Later when I checked my Star Tex Power account online I could still see the online payment was not processed. I thought there is some issue with there billing system through bank account payments and I paid my bill through credit card. The payment was made on time and in the next month bill I could see Other charges as 40 $ I was not sure about that and called the customer care representative. He explained it was fees for not processing payment for my checking account, I explained him the all the effort I made to pay the bill, if the online payment system through checking account is not working from their end why should I pay for that. He said its their policy and he can't help. I don't understand if they are having issues with their bill payment system why customer has to pay for it. It ridiculous for no reason I had paid 40$. I understand there is not perfect world and every system has its own faults but it can be solved through analyzing the problem and make proper decision. If they are not ready to do, what is the use of customer care service. I am very much disappointed with the experience I had and I will never have this services again and never recommend to anyone. Very poor and disappointing experience.

This Company has Gone DOWNHILL
I have had about a dozen (12) rental properties with StarTex for 5 years. StarTex USED to have pretty good customer service. But since StarTex got bought by Constellation, the service at StarTex has gone downhill fast. I have elected to vote with my feet, I am renewing ALL of my previous StarTex accounts with another provider (Champion). Things may not work out to be perfect with the new provider, but I am sure that things cannot be as screwed up as things have gotten with StarTex.

Misleading reps.
I was contacted by a rep by the name of Grant, to renew my commercial service contract. The best deal he quoted me was for a 4 year term at .04 something cents per kw. I signed a contract online but when I got my bill, it was for .05 something cents per kw. I have tried for over a month to contact this person, only to be put on hold for 10 minutes at a time, at which time I leave a message & they are SUPPOSED to call me back the 'next business day!' I have yet to receive a call back. Once I did get to talk to a live person but was told 'Grant' was on vacation & to call back Monday, which I did, only to be put on hold AGAIN! This company started out being a great company to do business with, back in 2011, but now, I would not recommend them to anyone!!!

Worst Customer Service
We recently moved and have had the worst experience with cancelling this power company. We filled out the online request to cancel service and completed all requested steps, but still got a bill for the electricity for our home for the month following our move-out date. We have called customer service on three occasions and forwarded our email showing that we have cancelled our service yet they still won't fix this bill. I have called three times to fix this issue and have waited over an hour on hold each time. I would never recommend this service to anyone.

We had been Star Tex customers for some time. We renewed at a reasonable rate but the company slammed us on to a much higher month to month rate. I signed up for electricity with Star Tex Power for the price of 4.7 cents per kwh for every monthly usage over 1000 kwh. If I go over 2000 kwh then its 5.4 cents. EVERY MONTH without exception they have OVER CHARGED me. I have addressed this matter and sought a resoluion EVERY MONTH. Even the mangers can't /won't fix it. Their response to me is that the rate is based off of the usage. Are they deaf ??/ My usage is in line with the price. I AM SICK OF THEIR EXCUSES, and refusal to honor the terms of the agreement. This company took $150 for a deposit for services not rendered. I went through the lengthy "enrollment" and gave all required info, only to find when I moved to my new residence I had no electricity. When I called the representative said there was no record of me, ridiculed me for pointing out the charge on my credit card. Called again with the print out of my confirmation email. My son called (I had authorized him to talk about my account) and spoke to the "compliance" dept. He was told "enrollement" wasn't completed due to incorrect address entered by them. New acct. given, called to confirm the next day and was told: no record of me, my address, acct. # etc. Based on other reviews, I'm lucky I don't have a contract with them. Now I just have to get a charge back on my credit card due to services not rendered. I would tell anyone who is thinking about StarTex power company: They are thieves and liars.

Let the games begin or continue ...
I signed-on and tried to see my renewal offer and after entering the renewal code the StarTex website pops up a message saying it doesn't appear I'm within a renewal period. That was FAIL#1. My service ends in 12 days which is within the 14 day window. So I called. Based on past calls to customer service I was prepared to be quickly annoyed. I asked for a 12 month quote. 7.1 cents per KWH and no minimum usage charge. I asked about a "base charge" (I have one on my current plan), then he mentions a "usage credit". That was FAIL#2. These providers are playing games! With all the credits, surcharges, etc. it's difficult to figure out what exactly YOU will be paying based on your usage. I opted to switch to a company that offered a reasonable flat rate per kwh + the Oncor delivery rate per kwh + 5.25 Oncor standard, and no minimum usage penalty fee, no base rate, and no "usage credit" B.S.. The combined rate is less than 7.1 cents and there's no telling what the parameters are at StarTex to get the 7.1. These companies are playing games to get themselves listed at a low 1 cent at the 1000 kwh level on powertochoose. I see one company that is 1 cent at the 1000 kwh but 11 cents at 2000 kwh which is what you'd probably be paying in the summer while running the A/C. The dishonesty and deception of the people running these companies is mind boggling! The "Electricity Facts Label" was supposed to simplify comparisons but the companies go out of their way to obfuscate their rates. As always, buyer beware.

I was moving into a new home, scheduled my power to start, and a week into my new home, power off. Friday, 4:58PM. I call immediately, they tell me they have no record of my account or name, and there is nothing they can do until tomorrow, I'm given fake numbers to call back, fake operator names, and no power for 4 days. The kicker is, the only reason my power came on, is because I gave up on Startex and switched to stream, who had my power on in less than 5 minutes after account creation.

A StarTex representative came knocking on my door with a story about a rate adjustment from Oncor to which I was entitled - I think that is what he meant. DO NOT sign with StarTex
I have never been so mistreated by a company in my life. They ran my payment through 7-10 days before it was authorized. They did reverse it however it took several days to correct on my end. During that time i acquired $280 in over drafts fees. They were credited to my account. They did the same thing a month later only they didn't correct it and only gave me 50% reimbursement of the fees. I had letters from my bank, bank statements and even allowed them to contact my local branch to get it resolved once and for all.
I want to say that StarTex WAS a wonderful company and we never had a single issue. Until CONSTELLATION bought them.

NEW CUSTOMER ONLY SCAM - PUC has been informed!
I've used multiple provider for power in Texas over the last 5 years since deregulation kicked in. I've always gone to powertochoose to get the best deal when my previous contract expires. I did this recently and have learned that StarTex is now considering anyone who has used their service within the last 36 months to not be eligible for their best NEW CUSTOMER plans. In the past, the process was that if u were not an existing customer you were considered a NEW CUSTOMER. Now StarTex has changed the rules to scam us. StarTex will publish a loss leader on powertochoose, but say you are not allowed to have that. They'll gladly sell you a plan that is more expensive so it's not that they think you are a risk. They just want to bait and switch users.I've contacted my local congressman and he has had the PUC file a complaint about this bait and switch practice. Hopefully, this will be resolved to help the little guy.

Little to Recommend
StarTex was once independent and they were great. Then they were bought by Constellation Energy and it's been a nightmare ever since. They screwed up almost everyone's bills at one point and were impossible to reach during the fiasco. Further, they sent out delinquent notices due to their screw up. I asked for and received a letter stating so, just to cover my rear. Their plans are difficult to understand, which is saying something given how hard all of them are. Additionally, when my contract was up, I called them to see what they had available. I asked for the best price based on my service. They quoted me a plan based on at least 2000 kWh per month. Well, my average is only 1037 and I only hit 2000 or more four times in the last 28 months. But, wait, there's more. This first plan included (at no extra charge, just a higher rate!) Air Conditioning "insurance." Be very careful of such insurance plans. At best, they're simply prepaid inspections and at a very high price. So, I asked for a cheaper rate and after about 15 more minutes, I finally got to what their cheapest plan is. Why should one have to go through such nonsense to find the best rate? So, given lousy customer service, rates that are on the high side, and statements that are a pain to retrieve, who needs StarTex/Constellation Power?

Well, my bank account indicated that payment of $70.09 was withdrawn by Startex Power on 12Dec2017. I called Starxtex Customer service to explain today 12/22 and was told that still the amount has not been received. Startex requested me to send in the proof of payment and I did.
