Disconnect Fees and Problems (450 reviews)
New Customer Review
“
I ordered service to start on 3/1/2024. I was never notified when to expect the first bill. As I did not request e-bills, So as of 4/4/2024 I began to watch the mailbox for my first invoice. As the middle of the month approached, I decided to call and ask when to expect the bill. To my astonishment, on or around 4/12/2024, I was told that the first bill was actually generated on 3/8/24 and since it had not been paid a letter of disconnection had been sent out. After speaking to the Customer Service Rep, we were able to sort everything out that day and I had my bank to send an immediate payment, in addition the Customer Service personnel was able to have the late fee reversed. She was extremely helpful. The disconnect with the billing dept not mailing or emailing me the first invoice.
Other than this initial hickup the company is doing great. ”

Competent Customer Service - Reasonable Rates
“ I have been with StarTex Power for at least 3 years now and through it all have never had any issues with their customer service. I have been able to connect to a REAL PERSON every time I call and am never charged ridiculous extra fees for making a payment with a live person. Even when we were going through financially tight months, StarTex never disconnected our power and would contact us if there was a late payment. BTW, they never charged me a late fee either. It's the first electric company I've had, and I've had many (count 4 years of college + 3 of grad school moving almost every year), where I felt that the people working in the company are human and understand when life gets in the way of yes, even the bills. Today, I was up for renewal of contract and I didn't even have to ask for bonus retention offers. The customer rep, Renee, went out of her way to find a deal for me. StarTex - you are keeping this customer! (And I'm going to bring along a few friends too) I personally think that although they might not have the cheapest rate out there, their customer service is valuable enough to justify the rate difference. ”

Poor Customer service
“ First of all I am happy with my rate and service from Just Energy. I am however not happy about the customer service end of it. My bill came due 4 days before my payday so I called to extend the due date and I end up speaking with a foreigner I could barely understand and although I've always been on time previously, she wouldn't budge and charged me with a $20 disconnect fee along with a 5% of my bill late fee. That's wrong ”

If you use under 1000 kWh
“ I had to switch from the best company out there because they don't appreciate my efforts to conserve energy and now they (Spark Energy) will charge $8.99 if I go under 1000 kWh. Getting set up with Champion's online bill payment wasn't smooth like at Spark, but I think I did it. Clicked on several "set up recurring payment" links before I got one that actually did that. The first links took me to pay bill, which you can't do on first bill because it will incur a charge of like $4. My account still says I'm on one time payments, so we will see if I successfully enrolled. From reading other reviews, I know that I'd better be on top of it and be sure it all happened or I might get a disconnect notice. But Champion doesn't charge for under 1000. They do charge for under 500, but it is only about $5. So it is the company for the 'small fry'. They do have very patient customer service reps also, so if you stay on top of bill and call them, I'm sure everything should go fine. I think the bad reviews are from people who didn't read all the fine print. But at least if there is a problem, you can call in and talk to someone who can fix things. Call in a second time if you don't like the answer, because I did get several different answers from Customer service. ”
